Alloys 800H/HT are used in a variety of applications involving exposure to corrosive environments and high temperatures such as heat treating equipment, chemical and petrochemical processing, nuclear power plants and the paper pulp industry. What is p22 material?

A335/SA335 Grade P22 Alloy Steel Seamless Pipes are Carbon steel pipes with addition of chromium, molybdenum, and sometimes vanadium. Chromium, or chrome, improves high-temperature strength, increases oxidation resistance and raises the tensile, yield and hardness at room temperatures.

Mechanical Properties

The mechanical features of incoloy 800/800HT are paired with their resistance to corrosion properties at the elevated temperatures that makes the Incoloy alloys extremely purposeful for using in the different high temperature and long term oriented operations. These alloys are also significantly used in the variety of corrosive media. The chemical composition limits of Incoloy 800H and 800HT reside within the limits of INCOLOY alloy 800. Alloy 800 comprises of large mechanical strength over high temperatures. It is suitable for using up to 1500oF. The vital difference between Incoloy alloy series depends on the difference of their mechanical properties. The difference in the mechanical properties is due to difference in their chemical composition and the different temperature annealing. Generally Incoloy 800 alloy possesses higher mechanical properties at the room temperatures and minimum to high temperature exposures. On the other side the Incoloy 800H and 800HT alloys offer high creep and stress rupture strength at the higher temperature exposures.

Incoloy alloy 800 is a widely used material of construction for equipment that must have high strength and resist carburization,oxidation and other harmful effects of high-temperature exposure. (For high temperature applications requiring optimum rupture and creep properties, Incoloy alloys 800H and 800HT are used). The chromium in the alloy imparts resistance to oxidation and corrosion. The high percentage of nickel maintains an austenitic structure so that the alloy is ductile. the nickel content also contributes general corrosion, resistance to scaling and stress-corrosion cracking.

INCOLOY alloy 825 (UNS N08825, W.Nr. 2.4858) is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum, copper, and titanium. The nickel content is sufficient for resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. The nickel, in conjunction with the molybdenum and copper, also gives outstanding resistance to reducing environments such as those containing sulfuric and phosphoric acids. The molybdenum also aids resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The alloy’s chromium content confers resistance to a variety of oxidizing substances such as nitric acid, nitrates and oxidizing salt. The titanium addition serves, with an appropriate heat treatment, to stabilize the alloy against sensitization to intergranular corrosion.

Incoloy alloy 825 is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of copper, molybdenum and titanium. The alloy's chemical composition is designed to provide exceptional resistance to many corrosive environments. The nickel content is sufficient for resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking. The nickel, in conjunction with the molybdenum and copper, also gives outstanding resistance to reducing environments such as those containing sulfuric and phosphoric acids. The molybdenum also aids resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The alloy's chromium content confers resistance to a variety of oxidizing substances such as nitrates, nitric acid and oxidizing salts. The titanium addition serves, with an appropriate heat treatment, to stabilize the alloy against sensitization to intergranular corrosion. The resistance of Incoloy 825 to general and localized corrosion under diverse conditions gives the alloy broad usefulness. Applications include chemical processing, pollution control, oil and gas recovery, acid production, pickling operations, nuclear fuel reprocessing and handling of radioactive wastes.

 

The outstanding property of Incoloy 825 is its corrosion resistance. In reducing & oxidising conditions, Incoloy 825 resists general corrosion, pitting & crevice corrosion, intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It is particularly useful in sulphuric & phosphoric acids, sulphur containing flue gases, sour gas and oil wells and sea water.


Incoloy 825 is approved for pressure vessel operating temperatures up to 525C (AS1210, AS4041), 538C (ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Sections I, III, VIII, IX, Cases 1936, N-188). Brittle phases may form in alloy 825 at temperatures above ~ 540C, so it is not normally used at these temperatures, where creep-rupture properties would be design factors.

Corrosion Resistance
The outstanding property of Incoloy 825 is its corrosion resistance. In reducing & oxidising conditions, Incoloy 825 resists general corrosion, pitting & crevice corrosion, intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It is particularly useful in sulphuric & phosphoric acids, sulphur containing flue gases, sour gas and oil wells and sea water.



Incoloy 825 can be readily hot or cold worked. Hot working should be in the range 870 1180C, finishing at 870 980C. For maximum corrosion resistance hot worked parts should be stabilise annealed before use. The alloy is easier to cold form than stainless steels.


Heat Treatment
Incoloy 825 is stabilise annealed at 940C. The softest structure is obtained at 980C. Sections heavier than sheet, strip and wire should be quenched to avoid sensitisation.


Application
Incoloy 825 is the material of choice in a wide variety of applications up to a temperature of approximately 550C (1020F),

Inconel601 sheet thickness ranges from 0.010 to 0.120". Inconel 601 reels are available in lighter specifications, up to 24" wide. Inconel 601 steel plates can be up to 2" thick.


Inconel 601 bars can be made into forged bars with a diameter of up to 3", and larger sizes and shapes can be forged upon order.

 

Inconel 601 seamless tube can provide up to 4" NB. Larger size welding structure (100% X-ray) is available, and can also be manufactured to order. Inconel 601 tube is not common, but can be produced to order. Re-drawn tube and strict Tolerance pipes can be provided in almost any size, no matter how small the size or quantity.

The specified ASTM A210 GR.A1 Seamless Steel Tubes are designed to be used in several applications as either boiler or as superheater tubes. The ASME SA210 Gr A1 Superheater Tubes that are manufactured under this specification also covers minimum wall thickness, and tubing sizes, boiler flues including safe ends, arch as well as stay tubes. While the specification for these ASME SA210 Grade A1 Pressure Vessel Tubes takes into account both the tensile strength and hardness properties but these two properties are applicable to certain size limitations. Material used in the manufacturing of ASTM A210 Grade A1 Heat Exchanger Tubes are to be killed. The ASTM A210 Grade a1 tubes are to be produced by seamless process, which in turn are to be marked as either hot finished tubes or cold finished tubes.

wells, or well bore.It is inserted into a well bore and cemented in place to protect both subsurface 

formations and the wellbore from collapsing and to allow drilling fluid to circulate and extraction to take 

place. Steel Casing Pipes have smooth wall & minimum yield strength of 35,000 psi. 

Tubing: Tubing is pipe used for the transportation of crude oil and natural gas from an oil or gas layer to 

the surface after drilling is complete. It is made to withstand the pressure generated from the extraction 

process. Tubing is manufactured in the same way as casing, except that an additional process known as

  • API C955 – same strength range as T95 and U. S. Steel C95, but without a hardness requirement; generally not used in sour wells
  • API T95 – API controlled yield strength grade (25.4 HRC maximum), the same as API C95 and U. S. Steel C95; generally for use in sour condensate wells; extensive hardness testing is required including SSCC testing per NACE Standard TM-0177-Method A; minimum threshold stress required is 80% of specified minimum yield strength

Scope

 

ANSI / API 5L specifies the manufacture of two product levels (PSL1 and PSL2) of seamless and welded steel pipe for the use of a pipeline in the transportation of petroleum and natural gas. For material use in a sour service application, refer to Annex H; for offshore service application, refer to Annex J of API 5L 45th Edition.

 

API 5L pipes may be classified according to the following criteria:

execution: seamless or welded (seamless pipes may be used up to 24 inches, LSAW above 24 inches, ERW up to 20 inches)
specification level (API PSL1, PSL2): PSL1 is a standard quality used for pipelines, whereas PSL2 sets more stringent chemical, mechanical properties, and testing requirements
surface finish: black, varnish painted, anti-rust oil, galvanized, coated externally (3PL) and/or lined internally
ends types: plain, beveled, threaded ends
The main advantages of API 5L pipe are:

Resistance to cracking forces that may propagate in long pipelines
Sour service suitability
Rather inexpensive and long service life (at least grades B, X42)
Size Range

API 5L pipes are available in dimensions between from 2 to 28″ (seamless execution) and up to 80″ in welded execution (generally, LSAW i.e. longitudinal submerged arc welding).

The API 5L and ASME B36.10 pipe dimensions and weights are, in fact, identical.

Process

 

Ingots, blooms, billets, coils or plates used for the manufacture of pipe shall be made via basic oxygen, electric furnace or open hearth in combination with a ladle refining process. For PSL2, the steel shall be killed and melted according to a fine grain practice. Coil or plate used for PSL2 pipe shall not contain any repair welds.
